The Roof’s Rubber Membrane

May 14, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

Today, a roofing crew is installing the rubber membrane on the roof.

The rubber membrane is designed to waterproof the roof.

The roofing crew glues the pieces of rubber membrane together.

To ensure the rubber membrane stays in place, the membrane will be covered with ballast (rocks, in this case).  Here a worker loads a bucket with rocks that will be craned to the roof.

A load of rock is released.

The rock is spread on the roof.  When finished, the entire roof will be covered in rock; the rubber membrane will not be visible.

Here’s the view of the roof from the northeast corner of the building.
